Passion fueled James Morrison’s desire to develop a photographic style enhancing the business and personal brands of corporations, entrepreneurs and independent professionals. He uses his skills in composition, mastery of lighting techniques and expertise in digital enhancement to remove the restraints of traditional executive, corporate and editorial portraiture. His client’s needs and ideas often become inspiration for his images. Sleeves rolled up, as often in front of the camera as behind it, James professional yet relaxed style invites collaboration between himself and his clients. As a kid growing up in a remote town in Virginia, James hounded his mother to purchase mail order art lessons. He still remembers the first time he created something of his own design; interplaying color, light and shadow. It was life changing. James later discovered photography was the perfect foil to express his creativity and develop methods of communicating his imagination. He sought out and trained with noted professionals from the Golden Gate and West Coast School of Photography. James honed his skills in composition and lighting techniques used by master portrait photographer Yousuf Karsh. Over his career, James has photographed high focus political figures, corporate executives, artists and entrepreneurs. “It doesn’t matter if my client is a political mover and shaker, a CEO, or an entrepreneur. They’re all photographed with the same consideration and purpose; to capture the essence that makes them unique. That’s the best part of my work. Discovering who is behind the eyes…the story that brings my client into the spotlight even for a few moments.” James is based in Sacramento.
